Students at Lynwood Elementary School celebrated May 4, widely known as Star Wars Day, with imagination, enthusiasm and a galaxy’s worth of creativity.

In Mrs. Levesque’s first grade class, students designed and measured their own Star Wars characters, blending art and math in a fun, engaging activity that brought their favorite heroes and villains to life.

Meanwhile, Ms. Amallobieta’s fourth grade class went above and beyond by transforming their entire classroom into a Star Wars-themed space. Students wrote and performed original scenes and analyzed key themes from the Star Wars films, turning the celebration into a dynamic lesson in writing, performance and critical thinking.

The force was definitely strong at Lynwood, where students boldly combined learning with the excitement of a galaxy far, far away.

In recognition of Memorial Day, Board trustee and U.S. Navy veteran Michael J. Isernia, Esq., presented a donation of 30 copies of “Twenty-One Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,” by Jeff Gottesfeld, to the °®¶¹´«Ã½ Central School District on May 7. The donation, made on behalf of the Military Business Resource Group of UL Solutions, aims to help young students understand the significance of the tomb at Arlington National Cemetery and the sacrifice it symbolizes.

The books will be placed in the libraries of °®¶¹´«Ã½’s 10 elementary and three middle schools. Educators will use them to teach students about the importance of honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United States.

The District maintains a long-standing tradition of senior trips to Washington, D.C., where students participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Through early exposure to the history of the tomb, students will gain deeper appreciation for this solemn experience later in their educational journey.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the District were Board of Education President Robert Scavo, Superintendent Patti Trombetta, fellow Board members and several District librarians.

Students from Mrs. Heinrichs’ and Mr. Sgaglione’s Government and Civics classes at °®¶¹´«Ã½ High School East have brought a fresh and creative approach to civic education. With the guidance of library media specialist Ms. Wightson, juniors and seniors tackled the Bill of Rights in a hands-on project – by writing and illustrating their own original children’s books.

Each book breaks down one of the first 10 amendments in a fun, age-appropriate way, making big constitutional ideas accessible and engaging for young readers. These student-created books are now being shared with elementary schools across the district, inspiring curiosity and understanding of our rights and freedoms at an early age.

Kudos to these talented °®¶¹´«Ã½ students for blending creativity with civic learning and making government come alive for the next generation.
